In the last fifty years Spain has experienced major changes regarding population movements and the perception the Spanish have concerning emigration and immigration as well as emigrants and immigrants. In short, in a few years it has gone from emigrating to receiving a significant flow of foreign immigration to again becoming issuers of people to Europe while immigration is still reaching the Spanish borders. All of this has led to growth in Spain’s interest in the study of international migration, its impacts on the origin and destination, designed integration policies and their implementation, as well as international comparisons. Among researchers who have analysed this issue we can find the Grup de Recerca Anàlisi Social i Educativa (GR-ASE; SGR-307 Catalonia research group) which among other things has studied migration flows, their impact, integration policies and the processes followed by people of foreign origin that are residents in Spain.
The text presents the evolution of the migration phenomenon, the creation and maintenance of transnational networks, the most relevant factors for exclusion and social integration, the demands and forms of intervention of the social workers who work with persons of foreign origin as well as the institutional response given from social services, the evolution of immigrant students in schools and educational policies on cultural diversity in the Spanish educational system, the development of associations, and others important questions about the immigration into Spain.

En els últims cinquanta anys Espanya ha experimentat canvis importants pel que fa als moviments de població i la percepció dels espanyols en relació a l’emigració i la immigració, així com respecte dels emigrants i immigrants. En resum, en pocs anys s’ha passat de ser un país d’emigració a rebre un flux significatiu d’immigració estrangera, a convertir-se de nou en emissors d’emigració a Europa, mentre que, tanmateix, la immigració segueix arribant a Espanya. Tot això ha suposat un creixent interès d’Espanya en l’estudi de les migracions internacionals, els seus impactes sobre l’origen i el destí, les polítiques d’integració dissenyades i la seva aplicació, i també en l’estudi comparat internacional. Entre els investigadors que han analitzat aquesta qüestió es troba el Grup de Recerca Anàlisi Societat i Educativa que entre altres coses ha estudiat els fluxos de migració, el seu impacte, les polítiques d’integració i els procediments seguits per la gent d’origen estranger que són residents a Espanya.
Aquesta publicació presenta l’evolució del fenomen de la migració, la creació i manteniment de xarxes transnacionals, els factors més rellevants per a l’exclusió i la integració social, les demandes i les formes d’intervenció dels treballadors socials que treballen amb persones d’origen estranger, així com la resposta institucional donada des dels serveis socials, l’evolució dels alumnes immigrants a les escoles i les polítiques educatives sobre la diversitat cultural en el sistema educatiu espanyol, el desenvolupament d’associacions i altres qüestions importants vinculades al cas de la immigració a Espanya.
